Fixed braces are incredibly effective and reliable when it comes to straightening teeth and correcting alignment issues and problematic bites. They consist of brackets attached to the front surface of the teeth combined with thin wires held in place with elastics. Brackets can be made of traditional metal or more aesthetically pleasing tooth-coloured ceramic.

Fixed braces are a common choice and provide long-lasting results when a final retainer is worn correctly. Treatment lasts for around 12-24 months, depending on the severity of your case and your desired results.

What does the treatment involve?

At your initial appointment, we will examine your teeth and discuss in detail the outcome you hope to achieve from the treatment. We will take photographs of your teeth and create your treatment plan, ensuring you are also happy with this.

Once your braces are ready, we will fix the brackets and wires into place on the front of your teeth. You may find your teeth feel sore for the first 3-5 days, but this will be mild and can be managed with painkillers.

We will ask you to visit us every 4-6 weeks during treatment, so we can adjust your brace and check everything is going to plan. You will also need to keep attending your regular check up and hygiene appointments to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy.

Once treatment is complete, we will remove your braces to reveal your newly straightened teeth. You will be given a custom-made retainer, which needs to be worn to ensure your teeth remain in their new positions.
